What's going on with github vs gitlab?

I just logged in today and the app required me to connect my github account to see the code. 
however, on checking - it seems that the gitlab repo is still there and active.

the docs still reference gitlab for updating from remote

is there a transition going on, or a duplication? or something else?

The code is updated in both locations. I think it's a duplication for now. Maybe a transition in the future.
