Chatbot service recommendation

We want to have a chatbot on our site to improve customer engagement and retention. Does anyone have any recommendations, preferably one that you have used or had experience with? A google search for "chatbox" produced a lot of results. I would love to use a chatbox integration that plays well with Rails. 

I don't like bots. Especially for new start ups. I use http://small.chat/
